If you’ve ever bought or sold a firearm through a licensed dealer, you’ve already interacted with an FFL holder, even if you didn’t realize it.
FFL stands for Federal Firearms License, a certification issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). It allows businesses or individuals like you, to legally manufacture, import, or sell firearms in the United States. This is why you’ll see FFL references when creating an account, winning auctions and getting them shipped, or even in the FAQ pages.
FFLs are important because they make sure that each party is knowledgeable about firearms and potential consequences of usage.
- Keeps Firearm Sales Legal
Federal law requires anyone engaged in the business of selling or manufacturing firearms to hold an FFL. Without it, those activities would be illegal.
- Ensures Buyer Background Checks
FFL’s who choose to completed ATF Form 4473’s (Firearms Transaction Record) are required to comply with all Federal, State and local laws prior to completing the transfer of the firearm or other restricted items to the buyer. Not ALL FFL’s are open to public transfers.
- Promotes Transparency and Safety
Every firearm transaction handled by an FFL is recorded. These records help law enforcement trace firearms when necessary, adding an important lay of accountability in the industry.
There are several different levels (or license types) of FFLs. Many address the import, manufacturing and transfer of firearms and other restricted items. Not all Federal Firearm Licensees hold the same type of license. It is very important to check with your local FFL to ensure they will be able to handle your transfer needs.
How to Add an FFL on eGunner.com?
Many of our customers have their own FFL or a dealer that they prefer. Sometimes they’re not on our dropdown list. Don’t worry, we’ve created a system to allow you to bid while we add the FFL to the dropdown list.
If you have your own FFL, and we don’t have one on the dropdown list that works, all you have to do is send us a email at Support@eGunner.com with your name as the subject. Then attach a copy of your FFL to that email, and you’re good to go! If your preferred dealer is not on the dropdown list, we ask that you reach out to them and ask them to send over a copy of their FFL to that same email address with your name as the subject line. Another option is to send a message on eGunner.com with their contact information and we can take care of it for you.
It may take some time to get the new FFL dealers onto the dropdown list, so we ask for your patience as we try to provide a better experience. If you have any questions – feel free to contact us at Support@eGunner.com or give us a call at 312-300-4449.
